WASHINGTON – The race for New York’s 19th Congressional District seat has caught the eye of President Obama. He has endorsed Zephyr Teachout for the post.  Both are Democrats and while it is not unusual for politicians of the same party to endorse one another, a presidential endorsement is more unusual.
The President said Teachout “will be the kind of reform-minded leader we need to build on all of the programs we’ve made over the last eight years to create a stronger, fairer country for our children.”  He called Teachout “an independent fighter for working families, and will help create an economy that works for everyone in this district, not just the wealthy and well-connected.”
Teachout will face Republican former state Assemblyman John Faso in next
month’s general election. She has been labeling Faso throughout
the campaign as being connected to the so-called “wealthy and well-connected.”
Faso has been campaigning on his past government experience and the claims that Teachout, an associate professor of law at Fordham University in NYC, is essentially a carpetbagger who moved into the district to run for the open seat.
