State trooper involved in fatal crash

TOWN OF WASHINGTON – A state trooper responding to a report of a
person with a knife at the Millbrook High School football game Friday
evening was involved in a fatal crash with a motorcycle.

State Police said the officer was driving eastbound on Route 44 with emergency
lights and sirens activated when he was involved in an accident with a
motorcycle operated by a 45-year-old Brooklyn man. The collision took
place at the intersection of Route 44 and Sharon Turnpike in the Town
of Washington.

The operator of the motorcycle, whose name was withheld pending notification
of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The trooper was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie
for evaluation and released with minor injuries.

The crash was reconstructed by the State Police Collision Reconstruction
Unit and remains under investigation.

Village of Millbrook Police assisted at the scene.
