Balkind – confirmed

POUGHKEEPSIE – Noel Knille will soon be on her way to the land of the pharaohs and pyramids, but she received high praise for her work as Dutchess County’s public works commissioner.  In farewell remarks during the monthly county legislature meeting, Knille conceded she will face one immediate challenge working in Egypt – she doesn’t know the language, yet.
Knille said she is heading to her new assignment with valuable resources during her three years with Dutchess County.
“It was a valuable, valuable experience,” she said.  “I learned a tremendous amount and I’ve met some extremely wonderful people in the legislature, in the county executive’s office and with my staff and colleagues.”
Deputy Commissioner Bob Balkind takes over the reins.
“His time has come,” said County Executive Marcus Molinaro.  “He is a diligent and dedicated public servant,” said Molinaro.  “He recognizes the value of public service and the importance of not only being responsible to the public but being responsive to the county legislature.”
Legislator Gregg Pulver, a former Pine Plains supervisor who worked closely with Balkind, agreed, calling him “professional” and the “right person for the job.”
Most other legislators agreed, confirming him with only one dissent, from Democrat Joel Tyner.
The legislature also confirmed Margaret Hirst as acting commissioner of the Department of Behavioral and Community Health.
