KINGSTON – It is going to cost just under $1 million for Kingston to purchase a new ladder truck, Mayor Steven Noble said Friday.
It will take approximately 300 days to build the vehicle by Smeal and sold by New England Fire Equipment and Apparatus. The purchase is being conducted through National Joint Powers Alliance.
Noble said as a result of the Best Value local law adopted in May, the city was able to use purchasing cooperatives as a tool in the purchase of commodities. “This purchasing cooperative assisted us in securing a tractor-drawn tiller, the model most recommended by members of the Kingston Fire Department and Kingston Professional Firefighters Association, for at least $150,000 less than originally quoted.”
Fire Chief Mark Brown said the current ladder truck is “no longer reliable and is costing us money to maintain.”
If the city needs access to a truck sooner than the new one can be delivered, a loaner aerial ladder truck will be made available to the city at modest charge.
