GOSHEN – The Intergovernmental Transfer funds from Washington and Albany expected to financially support Orange County’s Valley View nursing home last year just arrived in Goshen this week.
The county made do without the money, but the recent windfall is more than double what was anticipated last year, said the chairman of the county legislature’s Health and Mental Health Committee, Michael Anagnostakis.
“Because it has been delayed until this year, it will go into this
year’s budget,” Anagnostakis said.  “We had budgeted
$5.8 million for IGT for this year. It came in at $13.2 million. To me
what this means is, even with a slight increase in costs – health
insurance always goes up, personnel costs go up – Valley View turned
a small profit last year and I am looking for it to doing the same thing
this year.”
That is in contrast to multi-million-dollar losses at Valley View, in the Town of Goshen, just a few years ago.
