POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center Advisory Committee held its first meeting Monday as early planning for replacing the outdated current county jail picks up steam.
The Committee Chairman is County Legislator A. Gregg Pulver, who updated the full legislature Monday night.
“The programmatic changes that are taking place to ultimately lower the average length of stay, which obviously affects the size of the structure that we would potentially be building,” Pulver said.
LaBella Associates, of Rochester, currently working with Sullivan County on their new jail, is also the consultant for Dutchess.
Pulver said LaBella is a bit behind, but there is good reason for that.
“They are about a month behind on the timeline because of so much changes to the structure, but, the good news is there was so much input from the sheriff’s department and everybody else that it actually will become a much more efficient operation and everybody agrees to that.”
Pulver said the optimistic hope is they can go to bid early in 2017
They will present a report to the Criminal Justice Council at its monthly meeting this morning.
