FISHKILL – Crews spent part of Wednesday razing a portion of the
one-million-square-foot Gap distribution center that went up in flames
Monday night into Tuesday.

State, Dutchess County and local investigators remain on the scene along
with federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives specialists with
their national task force.

In the meantime, County Executive Marcus Molinaro and his team are working
to facilitate full operations for the company, which is heading into its
busy fall/winter holiday season.

“How do we assist those employees who will be and are displaced
and then how do we assist the Gap either running effectively as it can
on the current site or identifying an alternate location for them to do
some alternate work,” he said.
The Gap’s Fishkill campus has a more than 1.2-million-square-foot
second facility. Together the two massive buildings employed some 600
people. Molinaro said they had plans to increase that to 1,300 for the
holiday season, but he doubts the company will do that at the current
location.
The Fishkill operation is Gap’s northeast regional distribution center
and its online distribution facility.
