Middletown man charged with felony DWI after chase in Town of Newburgh

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A Middletown man is in the Orange County Jail
without bail following his arrest on a felony DWI charge.

Jonathan Thibault, 25, has two prior DWI convictions within 10 years.

At 4 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, Town of Newburgh Police Officer Joshua
Kemlage saw a vehicle southbound on Route 9W at a high rate of speed.
He attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Alexis
Diner. When the officer got out of his patrol car, Thibault got out of
his vehicle and fled on foot.

A short time later, Thibault was located, passed out under a tree on the
Powelton Club golf course. He was found to be highly intoxicated and was
taken into custody without incident.

Police charged him with felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of
a motor vehicle as a felony and misdemeanor, unlicensed operator, speed
in zone and failing to signal a turn.
