GOSHEN – A Cornwall woman pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter in Orange County Court on Monday in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Newburgh man on January 9, 2014.
Eric Geter, Sr.was walking to work on Walsh Avenue in New Windsor when
he was struck and killed at 5:38 a.m.
The victim’s family had contacted the police after he failed to show up for work. His body was recovered from a creek adjacent to Walsh Avenue on January 16.
The driver, Linda Ibrahim, 31, admitted to County Court Judge Robert Freehill that she was intoxicated when she was driving and struck Jeter.
District Attorney David Hoovler said it took several days of police investigation to piece the case together and charge Ibrahim.
“A tremendous amount of police resources and prosecutorial efforts were put into bringing her to justice and I am very pleased that we were able to reach a negotiated plea in that case,” Hoovler said.
Ibrahim faces the maximum sentence under the law of 2 1/3 to seven years in state prison when sentenced in October.
Ibrahim had been offered a plea to criminally negligent homicide with a recommendation of 1 1/3 to four years in prison, which she rejected.
