WASHINGTON – The New Hampton Fire District has been granted a more
than $52,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance
to Firefighters program.

The funds will be used to purchase a new compressor system to fill Self-Contained
Breathing Apparatus air packs for firefighters.
There are some 30 volunteers who are active in the department.

Terence Reynolds, assistant chief of the fire district, said the grant
will “take a huge burden off of the taxpayer.” He said the
grant will help keep fire protection taxes as low as possible “while
continuing to train with modern, up-to-date equipment and allowing us
to provide the best fire protection we can to the citizens and businesses”
of the district.

The grant was announced by Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand
and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney.
