POUGHKEEPSIE – Mayor Robert Rolison has appointed the Hartford,
Connecticut tax collector as Poughkeepsie’s new finance commissioner.

The selection of Marc Nelson comes following a national search by the
city’s Fiscal Advisory Team. He will take over the Poughkeepsie
post in early September.

The Fiscal Advisory Team, which was headed by former Dutchess County Budget
Director Valerie Sommerville, interviewed several candidates. I her letter
of recommendation to Acting Administrator Ronald Knapp, she said Nelson
“clearly understands the fiscal challenges the city faces having
dealt with similar issues at the City of Hartford.”

Mayor Robert Rolison said the finance commissioner position is “critical
to Poughkeepsie’s future.” His background in municipal finance
and his work with the City of Hartford is “exactly what our city
needs at this time,” the mayor said.
