Sales tax collections up in the Valley

ALBANY – Putnam County had the highest percentage increase in sales tax collections in the first six months when compared to the same period last year, according to a report released on Thursday by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
Sales tax collections in Putnam grew by 11.5 percent. Columbia County was second with a 5.4 percent increase followed by Rockland with 3.8 percent more.
Sullivan County sales tax collections in the first half of the year grew by 3.7 percent, while Ulster’s rose by 2.7 percent. Dutchess County followed with a 2.1 percent increase over the first six months of last year, followed by Greene County at 1.8 percent.
Only Orange County was flat and there were no counties with losses.
Among the four Westchester County cities that collect their own sales tax, revenues rose by 17.3 percent in Yonkers, followed by 2.3 percent in New Rochelle. Sales tax collections dropped by 2.4 percent in White Plains and 0.6 percent in Mount Vernon.
