Movies on the beach, in a tent that will hold over 3,000

GREENWOOD LAKE – The Hoboken International Film Festival will be held on the shore of Greenwood Lake next spring, its founder Kenneth Del Vecchio confirmed on Friday.
After a four-year run in Middletown, the city and Del Vecchio could not come to terms on a new agreement and Del Vecchio said he expressed interest in Greenwood Lake about the same time village officials reached out to him.
Next year’s festival will be held the week before Memorial Day – May 19-25, instead of the week after. It will be held under a tent at the Thomas Morahan Waterfront Park right on the water’s edge.
“In Hoboken, we held in at Frank Sinatra Park right on the water at the Hudson River overlooking the New York City skyline and the city erected a big tent and we build a theater inside the tent,” Del Vecchio said.
A three-year signed contract between the two parties will see Greenwood Lake paying $40,000 in the first year, $45,000 in the second and $50,000 in the third year. Orange County will also contribute to the event.
Del Vecchio said the tent in which the festival will be held will hold 3,000 to 4,000 people.   The Paramount Theater in Middletown holds a little over 1,000 people.
Del Vecchio, along with village and county officials, will provide additional
details of the new venue on Monday.
Del Vecchio couldn’t be happier. “This is an ultimate tourist destination,” he said. In addition to the film festival, attendees could go swimming or boating in the lake.
