Winding Hawk’s Nest popular with visitors and motorcyclists

SPARROWBUSH – Route 97 over the Hawk’s Nest in Sparrowbush is a scenic roadway, and motorists should stick to the speed limit and enjoy the scenery, Orange County Legislator Thomas Faggione suggested.
The biggest problem in that stretch of the road in recent days has been motorcycle accidents including two on one Sunday two weeks ago. One of those was fatal.
Faggione said as a former biker himself, his advice is to slow down.
“There is a nice road and the scenery is beautiful there and I hope they just observe the posted speed limits and observe the traffic signs and be careful, especially right now since below the Hawk’s Nest they are working on replacing the bridge on lower Route 42. So, we have a new traffic pattern down at Bolton Basin. There are some rubble strips down there.”
Faggione’s message to bikers is to slow down and enjoy the scenery
on the Hawk’s Nest near Port Jervis.
