CARMEL – The fourth Annual Family Fishing Day in Lake Gleneida was
truly a family fun day.

The event in Carmel is co-sponsored by the New York City Department of
Environmental Protection and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
The agencies supplied rods, reels and bait in hopes that anglers would
land some of the fish in lake – trout, bass, perch, bullheads and,
of course, sunfish.

When Meg O’Sullivan, 7, of Carmel, who was fishing with her family,
landed her first fish, a five-inch sunny, she exclaimed, “I thought
it was Jaws.” Her dad helped her remove the fish from her line and
return it to the lake.

George Whipple of Carmel, who came by the Saturday event, was reminded
of his childhood when his family would go to their lake each summer and
he would catch “some whoppers back then.”

More than 125 families registered for this year’s fishing, which
is expected to return next summer for its fifth year.
