MAYBROOK – An accident involving a tractor-trailer and three cars Monday morning shut down Interstate 84 west for about four hours. The incident occurred before 10 a.m. just west of Maybrook exit 5.
Two people who were heavily entrapped in a vehicle were extricated with both transported to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.
Several fire and police departments were on the scene along with ambulance services.
The saddle tank on the tractor-trailer ruptured and Orange County Hazmat and the Coldenham spill trailer were called to the scene for a fuel leak.
Many drivers, seeing the backup, got off at Exit 5A, causing backups on Route 17K heading toward Montgomery and a stretch of Route 208 as some tried to get back to I-84.
