MIDDLETOWN – A break in a 20-inch water main in the Highland system
of Middletown water delivery Sunday morning resulted in residents of the
area in and around Pilgrim Estates to be without water all day.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said crews worked throughout the day in an effort
to repair the damage and restore service.

“We caution people when the water comes back on to be very careful
on using it. It will be safe to drink, but washing clothes it may be a
little discolored,” he said.
DeStefano said crews had trouble with some of the shutoff valves with
certain parts of the city impacted. Impacted streets included Chorley,
Watts Park, Commonwealth, Watkins, Sunset, Prospect, Highland, half of
Linden, Courtland, Cantrell and the Y, Wallkill Crescent, both Bonnells,
Knapp Lake, Independent, Summit, Oliver, Royce, Liberty and half of Rockwell.
