Two motorcycle crashes, one deadly, on Hawk’s Nest

SPARROWBUSH – Two unrelated motorcycle accidents on Route 97, over the Hawk’s Nest Sunday afternoon resulted in one fatality.
The deadly crash involved a single motorcycle and occurred approximately
5:45 p.m.. The driver was Angel Valer, 23, of Hawthorne, New Jersey. 
He heading sast on Route 97 through the Hawk’s Nest when he lost
control of his cycle while negotiating a curve.    He struck
the rock wall on the south side of the roadway. The operator was ejected
from the motorcycle which then burst into flames from a ruptured gas tank,
Deerpark Police said.
Valer was not burned but he was taken to Bon Secours Hospital in Port
Jervis where he died from serious internal injuries.  The cause of
the crash is still under investigation. Valer was wearing a helmet.
The other crash happened 1:05 p.m. and involved a single motorcycle operated
by Hwang Shim, 33, of Fort Lee, New Jersey. He was travelling west on
Route 97 through the Hawk’s Nest area when he lost control of his
cycle while negotiating a curve and struck the rock wall on the south
side of the road. 
The Town of Lumberland Ambulance transported him to a landing zone where
he was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with head and neck
injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation but no drugs
or alcohol is suspected to be involved at this time, police said.

He was wearing a helmet.
The Sparrowbush Fire Department assisted Deerpark Police at both scenes.
