Haverstraw man convicted in Palisades Center police attack

NEW CITY – A Rockland County jury found Daniel McCormack, 33, of Haverstraw, guilty of  Assault in the Second Degree, a Felony and One count of Obstructing Governmental Administration, a Misdemeanor relating to a violent altercation with police and paramedics. On March 31, 2015. 
Town of Clarkstown police officers responded to the area of TGI Fridays and Chili’s on the fourth floor of the Palisades Center in West Nyack on the report of a drunk and disorderly man. Upon arrival, responding officers observed McCormack near Chili’s smoking a cigarette.  The defendant grew belligerent and attempted to flee.  He head-butted one officer causing minor injuries.
Later at the Town of Clarkstown police headquarters, the defendant verbally and physically refused to be searched and slammed his own head against the wall of the holding cell, prompting the use of pepper spray.
McCormack will be sentenced on August 31. He faces up to seven years in state prison.
