HUDSON –  Sheriff David Bartlett announced members of his office successfully completed a week-long course in Civil Law Enforcement at the New York State Sheriff’s Association Institute.  Among them were 1st Sergeant Louis Bray and civil clerk Michele Donnelly.
Newly promoted Law Enforcement Sergeants are required to take this course as a requirement for all front line supervisors.  Civilian personnel assigned to the civil division, are also required to take this course as part of their daily duties in preparing civil papers, judgments, court orders, and mandates for service by the uniform patrol.
The New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute held a week-long Basic School for deputy sheriffs and civilian staff the week of April 11, 2016.  Deputies and other staff from Sheriffs’ Offices around the State attended the program, which was taught by Sheriff’s Office staff with expertise in civil enforcement law.
This five-day program, which includes the latest advances in civil law enforcement, is a requirement for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office to stay an accredited agency.  The Civil Division earned accreditation under Sheriff David Bartlett, who is an executive committee member of the NYSSA, in June of 2015.
