NEW WINDSOR – The Hudson Valley now has nonstop flights to Myrtle
Beach. The first Allegiant flights at Stewart Airport occurred on Thursday.
Service will run every Thursday and Sunday through the summer.
Stewart Manager Ed Harrison is excited about the new service.
“It is going to be a great opportunity to go down there and golf, have a little beach and go to some great restaurants,” Harrison said. “In addition to just going to Myrtle Beach, we are doing reverse marketing also. We are marketing coming to the Hudson Valley.”
The second New York Air Show at Stewart, over Labor Day weekend, will be among the attractions promoted in South Carolina.
Lynn Cione, president of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged the importance of bringing tourists into the Hudson Valley.
“One of the things that is happening in Orange County is that we have become very, very cognizant of the need to bring people here and using Stewart, not just using Stewart as an exit point, but as an entry point for people,” Cione said.
Allegiant’s other Stewart service, to Tampa-St. Pete, is year round.
