TOWN OF LLOYD – A 51-year-old Highland woman was killed when her
car drifted across Route 299 in the Town of Lloyd Saturday morning and
struck another vehicle.
Joanne Silvestro was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie,
where she died.
Ulster Sheriff’s deputies said that at about 9:24 a.m., Silvestro
was traveling eastbound on Route 299 in a 2012 Honda Civil when she drifted
off the road onto the right shoulder, struck a guiderail and then crossed
into oncoming traffic, striking a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Joseph Curry,
58, of Highland. He was treated for minor injuries at Vassar Brothers
Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police do no0t
anticipate issuing any tickets or filing criminal charges.
Deputies were assisted the scene by the State and Town of Police as well
as Highland Fire Department.
