KINGSTON – The New York City Department of Environmental Protection
will be conducting a state DEC-approved recreational release for the Lower
Esopus Creek this weekend to provide additional flows for recreational
activities on the creek, including tubing and kayaking.
The additional flows, which began Friday evening, will continue through Sunday afternoon.
DEC says everyone should be careful, wear personal floatation device, and take advantage of the many private guides and vendors that offer recreational boating and tubing services on the Esopus.
DEC’s Allaben fishing access site will be open for fishing but people should be advised that this is not a suitable location for launching tubes or kayaks and boaters should find an appropriate location downstream to launch.  Anglers and other creek users should be cautious due to the high flows, and obey all appropriate signs and restrictions.
