GOSHEN – Orange County Government employees will be able to participate
in the third separation plan now that the county legislature has approved
it.
County workers who have been on the job for 10 years or more would qualify to retire with a one-time bonus. Those who have under 10 years on the job may also bow out under the plan, but would receive no bonus.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus said those “separations” mean the county will save money.
“Those type of savings allow us to either not replace those positions or if we do have to replace those positions over a period of time, you are bringing in employees that will now be contributing to health care, brought in at a lower rate, and will have an overall savings for the county,” Neuhaus said.
County Human Resources Commissioner Steven Gross said a total of 191 people took advantage of the first two rounds of separation, saving the county $8.5 million in taxes.
Employees with 10 to 20 years on the job will receive a $10,000 bonus. Those with 20 to 30 years will receive $12,500; and those with 30 years or more, will receive a one-time bonus check of $15,000.
