NEWBURGH – U.S. Labor Secretary Tom Perez said on Friday that Verizon and two unions representing its workers have reached a tentative agreement that will end a massive, six-week strike.
In a statement, Perez said the parties had resolved their remaining issues “in principal,” but were still hammering out the contract language. Once that is done, the unions – the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – will submit the agreement to membership for a vote.
Paul Ellis-Graham, president of the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation, said they are “proud to have stood on the lines with (the striking members) and play a small role in this victory.”
