MONTGOMERY – Joel was about to turn eight and his step-mom Nicole Restuccia was planning a birthday party, but she got no responses back from her invitations so she put a post on Facebook for kids his age to come celebrate with him.
Meanwhile, Shannon Fisher saw Nicole’s post. Since Fischer works at the Orange County 911 center, she put out a call for police officers to join Joel on Sunday, and the rest was history.
“With my connections with 911 I know everybody so I gave Walden (police) a call and asked if they want to go in and the next thing I know, everyone got annoyed that they didn’t get an invitation and they are all showing up,” said Fisher, whose husband is a member of the New York City Police Department. “NYPD, then went to Walden, who brought in Mongtomery, who brought in the sheriffs, who brought in the State Police. I’m waiting for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; I’m sure they will be here somewhere.”
When Joel arrived after having breakfast out with his dad, he couldn’t believe it. There was even a police K-9 that came to wish him happy birthday. The birthday boy got to sit in a police car and was even given his own SWAT outfit.
