KINGSTON – Ulster County has nine electric car charging stations on county property, but some of them got little to no use since their installation in mid-2015 and County Comptroller Elliott Auerbach is suggesting placing them in better locations.
The most popular spots were at the Ulster County Courthouse on Wall Street and the Ulster County Office Building on Fair Street, both in Kingston. Less used locations included the Law Enforcement Center where one use was reported and the county health department where seven sessions were reported.
Auerbach said more convenient locations in the county may increase activity.
“Part of the recommendations in our report is to high traffic areas, the tourism laden areas in Ulster County, maybe off the Thruway in New Paltz at the parking and ride; maybe up in Saugerties at HITS where people come and spend the day or a couple of days at the horse shows; maybe somewhere Mohonk where the hikers are,” he said.
Of the 534 unique charging sessions, 405, or 76 percent, of the users were from Ulster County.
