ELLENVILLE – The Ellenville Million Initiative, the brainchild of Ulster County Executive Michael Hein, to breathe new life into the Ellenville-Wawarsing area, has launched with a tourism marketing campaign.
The $1 million fund is aimed at helping the area rise out of economic depression after it lost the bid for a Las Vegas-style casino-resort at the former Nevele Hotel.
County Tourism Director Rick Remsnyder said the arts have a solid foundation with the Shadowland Theatre now called the Shadow Stages with two venues.
“I think it certainly will open up some of the storefronts there where there are some exciting ideas to help the arts, and antiques of course is another one and there is some history to the Ellenville area,” Remsnyder said.
The Ulster County Economic Development Alliance announced that the advertising and public relations company BBG&G has been hired to develop and implement a year-round tourism campaign to promote the Ellenville-Wawarsing area.
