MONTGOMERY – Two tanker cars of a Norfolk-Southern freight train derailed Monday afternoon just past Route 17K at Railroad Avenue in the Village of Montgomery.   Some track was torn up but there were no reports of injuries.
Authorities said the cars contained non-toxic materials; however, hazmat teams were called to the scene to investigate.
Mayor Stephen Brescia wants the railroad to inspect all of the tracks in his village.
“I want to make sure that Norfolk-Southern does a complete assessment of the tracks in the village to make sure they are not going to be compromised or they are safe enough to handle these cars,” Brescia said.
