NEW PALTZ – The recently adopted state budget is no friend to SUNY New Paltz, but the students will undoubtedly like it.
College President Dr. Donald Christian said the spending plan will make it that much more difficult to operate the school.
“We received no tuition increase, no increase in taxpayer support, so our budget for next year is pretty flat compared with this year,” Christian said. “We will be able to make it through one year drawing down our campus emergency fund, but longer term with no tuition and no taxpayer support will be a real challenge for us.”
Students at the college held a number of rallies earlier this school
year calling for a freeze on tuition, a cost they maintain is becoming
unattainable for many of them.
