MIDDLETOWN – Highland Avenue, the wide residential street in Middletown, is often the Indianapolis Speedway, and a task force of city officials explored possible ways of slowing down the traffic.
The committee ruled out speed bumps, textured pavement, roundabouts, and median barriers.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the study group has come up with one concept.
“The recommendations will be the installation of raised crosswalks and to monitor to see if there is any improvement to traffic conditions,” DeStefano said.  “These would not only be placed at intersections; they would be placed at intervals mid-block.”
Before any engineering studies are commissioned and funds appropriated, the mayor said the city would conduct public hearings to gain input from city residents.
