TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Col. Timothy LaBarge, commander of the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh since April 2012, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general during a ceremony on Saturday.
BG LaBarge is responsible for the combat readiness of assigned units by reviewing training programs and ensuring availability of necessary equipment, supplies and facilities.
He oversees a wing of over 1,000 personnel with an annual payroll of $78 million and total local area economic impact of some $150 million. He also has coordinating responsibilities for a US Marine Corps unit of 660 reservists with 14 KC-130T assigned aircraft.
LaBarge previously served as the commander of the 109th Airlift Wing, the only ski-equipped C-130 unit in the Air Force and sole provider of heavy airlift in support of military and National Science Foundation directed operations in the Arctic and Antarctic Polar regions.
His current assignment is not his first at the Stewart Base. He served in a number of roles at the 105th from December 1991 through February 2006 when he was transferred to Air Force Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
