MID-HUDSON – The Dutchess and Ulster Regional Chambers of Commerce and the Business Council of Westchester are the latest three business organizations to sign onto the campaign against Governor Cuomo’s $15 per hour minimum wage proposal.
In total, the Minimum Wage Reality Check is now supported by 54 groups.
Both the Ulster and Dutchess chambers conducted surveys of their members and they don’t want to see a hike to the extent of $15.
Ulster Chamber President Ward Todd said in particular, the small business
community would have great difficulty obeying the law.
“That’s the difficult part of this to swallow; things are just now getting better,” Todd said.  “We have seen tremendous growth in many sectors in the last year or so. We really feel that this proposed law, while well-intentioned, is going to do more harm because there are those businesses that are struggling to meet payroll.”
Frank Castella, Jr., president of the Dutchess Chamber, said, “There’s just too much at stake” to increase the wage to $15.
The Orange County Chamber and Rockland Business Association have both joined the Minimum Wage Realty Check campaign against the $15 per hour rate.
