CHESTER – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus believes 11 areas of the county-owned Camp LaGuardia property can be shovel-ready and available for development by the end of the year.

Neuhaus made the assessment on Wednesday as he toured the property in Chester and Blooming Grove with Mid-Hudson News.
He said all that is needed now is for the two towns to approve the commercial zoning concept and for the county Industrial Development Agency and the county to talk to developers interested in building office and commercial space there.
“We have done many industrial parks in Goshen, Chester and other places in Orange County have some successful developers so I think that would be up to the IDA and the county working together and probably getting the most qualified person that has the financing and if we sell them a piece of property that is shovel ready, it’s a win-win,” Neuhaus said.  “And if it approved for a commercial use, it protects the residents of southern Orange County rather than having some high-density project, which is something that we cannot facilitate on this property as there is not enough water and sewer available at this time for that.”
Neuhaus announced during his state-of-the-county message one week ago that
he has worked out a deal to buy out the contract the county has with the
Mountco company to take back the development rights on the property for
$1.2 million of IDA money.
