LOCH SHELDRAKE – Sullivan
County Community College President Dr. Karin Hilgersom was a finalist
in two previous college presidency searches neither of which panned out.
She is now one of the four finalists for the presidency of Illinois Central
College in East Peoria.
The college reported on its website that it received over 50 applications for its top job. That was narrowed down by a search committee with assistance from a search firm to 12 semi-finalists and after interviews, the committee recommended Hilgersom and three others – Dr. Jackie Elliot, president of North Arkansas College in Harrison, Ark.; Dr. Sheila Quirk-Bailey, current chief of staff and vice president of planning and institutional effectiveness at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Ill.; and Dr. Tim Wynes, president of Inver Hills Community College in Inver Grove Heights, Minn. and Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minn.
The Illinois Central College Board of Trustees plans to interview each of the candidates next week and hopes to have the new president in place by June or July, in time for the fall semester.
Hilgersom is expected to be on campus in East Peoria for a public forum on Thursday, March 31.
In January, she was one of three finalists for the presidency of Phoenix College in Arizona. Less than a year before, she was one of three finalists at Spokane Community College in Washington.
