Elderly man killed in Saugerties when he runs stop sign crashing into other vehicle

SAUGERTIES – An man was killed around 10:30 a.m. Sunday when he drove through a stop sign on Glasco Turnpike at the intersection of Route 32 in Saugerties and was struck by a pickup truck heading north on Route 32.
Saugerties Police said Richard Granville, 80, of Franks Road in Saugerties
was westbound on Glasco Turnpike when he ran the stop sign and his car
was struck by the truck driven by a 50-year-old Malden man.
Granville was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by Glasco firefighters. He was treated at the scene by paramedics, was transported to the HealthAlliance Broadway campus in Kingston and flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center where he underwent surgery but died.
The driver of the truck was treated at the scene and transported to Health Alliance Broadway campus where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Saugerties Police request anyone who may have seen the accident to call them at 845-246-9800.
