NEWBURGH – A Newburgh woman was charged Friday morning with leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident after she struck a pedestrian as she crossed Broadway at William Street.
The victim was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the car later went to the police station and acknowledged her involvement in the accident.
Xiomara Gutierrez, 35, of Newburgh told police she did not see the pedestrian crossing due to the morning sun glare and that she left the scene because a large crowd began approaching and she perceived that as a threat.  She said she drove a few blocks away to her job after the 8:20 a.m. accident and notified her boss and family after which she drove to police headquarters.
Gutierrez was charged with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene and released pending future court action.
