Buses are fully accessible, including room for two wheelchairs

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Office for the Aging is replacing two vans with 18-passenger buses for transportation of seniors to the county’s nutrition program. The new vehicles include two wheelchair-accessible seats, something not available in the smaller vans.
The new buses, paid for by the county, will be part of a fleet of four Office for the Aging buses and five vans. They will go into service in mid-March and replace the two vehicles that provided some 6,500 trips for seniors last year and delivered 7,200 home-delivered meals to homebound county residents.
“Many Dutchess County seniors often list transportation as their top priority, and I’m happy these new buses will help our Office for the Aging continue to address that concern,” said County Legislator John Thomes, chairman of the Family and Human Services Committee.
County Executive Marcus Molinaro said the new buses will provide an opportunity for seniors to share in a hot meal, partake in social activities and receive nutrition screening, assessment, education and counseling.
