ALBANY – The SUNY New Paltz Educational Opportunity Program will receive $290,000 to expand by 100 students above the current 517 students in the program. The funding will provide stipend support for new students and add a new EOP counselor.
The program at SUNY New Paltz has been functioning since 1967 by providing academic and financial support to state residents with a high school diploma or its equivalent, and who do not meet general admission criteria, but have the academic potential to earn a college degree.  The program is designed to provide students with a two- or four-year college education if they face a number of circumstances that may present barriers to academic success.
SUNY Orange – Orange County Community College – will receive $114,750 for first year costs of implementing a new EOP program.
The local program, to be launched for the 2016-17 academic year, will include 75 students, with 45 to be taken in the first year and others admitted in future years. The funding will support start-up and first-year costs, with an additional SUNY grants in the following four academic years.
