ALBANY – A former US attorney for the Southern District of New York has been tapped by Governor Cuomo to serve as an Associate Judge on the New York State Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court.
Michael Garcia of Irvington currently works in a New York law firm.
Cuomo called Garcia “a talented, experienced, and skilled prosecutor who will make a tremendous addition to the Court of Appeals.”
Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino said he has “always admired his character and incredible service to our state and country as the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Department of Homeland Security and law clerk for the Honorable Judith Kaye at the New York State Court of Appeals.”
Astorino said Garcia “will make an excellent judge, bringing a level of intellect, integrity and independence to the New York court system.”
