NEWBURGH – The agreement between St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital
and Montefiore Health System headquartered in the Bronx has been inked
making Montefiore its new parent organization in what officials call a
strategic partnership.

“This relationship with Montefiore is going to strength the coordination
of all of our healthcare services,” said Joan McGuirk, RN, acting
SLCH president.
SLCH and Montefiore have developed a five-year plan for the Orange County-based
hospital and it will take some two to three years to stabilize, but we
are going to get there,” McGuirk said.

Montefiore has been very clear that they want to keep the care local,
she said.

“If there a gap in care, they will bring the experts here, or if
that is not possible for whatever reason, we will have a relationship.
Montefiore is extended throughout the Hudson Valley – we could go
to White Plains; so it is a real synergy between all of the organizations.
We are their 10th hospital and it’s a real close knit operation,”
she said. “They are not looking to remove the care out of the community;
it is quite the opposite. They will fill in the gap.”
SLCH and Montefiore first announced development of the strategic partnership
plan in October.

The St. Luke’s Cornwall Board of Trustees will now be structured
somewhat differently with the board retaining its identify and local majority,
but with Montefiore also having seats at the table.
