ALBANY – As the state’s new legislative session begins, top on the agenda for Assemblywoman Didi Barrett (D, Hudson) is ethics reform.
Barrett said in light of recent events involving state public officials, she would like to see more transparency, open and accountable state government.
“I would like to see us address the kinds of substantive and meaningful ethics and election reforms that will help restore faith in our state government,” Barrett said.  “It has taken a beating with reason, but I do believe that like me, most of my colleagues are there for the right reasons and we just need to do what we can to ensure that the public understands that we work for them. We don’t work self-involved politicians; we don’t work for the corporations. We work for the people of New York State.”
While there were reforms enacted last year, Barrett said there must be
other reforms including stripping corrupt politicians of their state pensions.
