COLD SPRING – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney is going to have
a challenge within his own Democratic party this year.

Cold Spring Attorney Diana Hird is running in the 18th Congressional District
June 28th primary election because she has “the knowledge, experience
and track record to take back” the district.

Hird has practiced business law for 15 years, briefly worked on Wall Street
and as an enforcement division attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission.

Most recently, Hird was a volunteer community advocate in the City of
Newburgh. “There I found myself using skills developed as a lawyer
to pinpoint and identify government programs that could help the community,”
she said.

“There I found that though many of these programs had impressive
websites and glassy communications, they lacked any real community or
social utility – beyond serving as marketing opportunities for politicians
at the expense of the populace.”

While Hird said she has “respect for government and the democratic
process… it seems that the conversation between government and the
citizenry has become confused and diminished by politics.”
