TOWN OF ULSTER – Macy’s department stores announced on Wednesday that it will close 40 stores across the country for being under-achievers with the store at the Hudson Valley Mall in the Town of Ulster is among them.
A total of 72 employees will be out of work as a result and the 121,000 square foot retail space will be vacated.
The closure is seen as a significant economic blow to the Town of Ulster,
which relies heavily on its retail trade, the jobs and sales tax it provides.
Other Macy’s stores to be closed in New York include two in Buffalo, and one each in Horseheads and Williamsville.
