Newburgh-Beacon Bridge

HIGHLAND – Traffic and revenue on the five Hudson River bridges operated by the New York State Bridge Authority rose about 2.5 percent in 2015 over 2014 and typically, those bridge stats are early indicators of economic improvement, according to Joseph Ruggiero, executive director of the agency.
Ruggiero said one factor in particular is leading to increased traffic.
“The Bridge Authority is seeing definitely the benefits of lower gas prices of cars going back and forth across the bridge, and even the increase in our commercial activity is showing uptick, so that is exciting news for the economy and I am hoping it plays out for into a stronger 2016,” he said.
In November, the last full month that stats were compiled, traffic on all five bridges increased by 6.6 percent and revenue rose by 6.0 percent.
