Town of Newburgh receives $140,000 workers’ comp refund

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The Town of Newburgh received a refund of $140,000 from its workers’ compensation insurance company for the calendar year 2014. Comparable amounts are anticipated in the near future for the years 2012 and 2013.
Town Supervisor Gilbert Piaquadio said the refunds are the result of work done by Hushion Consulting Services, a firm that specializes in auditing municipal worker compensation agreements to make certain the municipality is not overpaying. Hushion receives a portion of the refund is secures.
Piaquadio said the consulting company obtained the refunds, saving taxpayers “a great deal of money,” as well as conducted the audit “in a manner that did not disrupt town employees in their normal work duties.”
