Hundreds attend funeral for fallen Mt. Marion firefighter

CENTERVILLE – Center of the Village of Saugerties was shut down to traffic at mid-day Monday as hundreds and hundreds of firefighters from across the region paid their respects to Mt. Marion Firefighter Capt. Jack Rose.

Rose, a volunteer fireman, who was just 19 years old, collapsed and died while fighting a fire on Saturday, December 19. He had been a firefighter for three years and was recently promoted to captain.
During the funeral service at St. John Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Centerville, the young man was eulogized as someone who dedicated himself to his family, the fire department, friends, his studies and the community.  The 2014 graduate of John A. Coleman High School in Kingston was buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Barclay Heights.
Rose is survived by his parents, Gary and Linda Rose, his brother, Matthew, and sister-in-law, Jessica Rose, of Saugerties, niece, aunts, uncles and cousins.
