NEW CITY – The Democrat-controlled Rockland County Legislature voted to override all 22 of Republican County Executive Edwin Day’s line item vetoes in his proposed $727.6 million budget for 2016.
Lawmakers voted Tuesday night to override the vetoes of 13 full-time-equivalent security positions and six county finance department positions.
Under the compromise spending plan, the tax increase for 2016 is over 9.8 percent, amounting to some $8 per month. Day’s vetoes would have put the increase at about 8.6 percent.
“This has been a long and detailed process as we sought to ensure
adequate funding for county operations in 2016,” said County Legislature
Chairman Alden Wolfe.
