Entergy hopes to keep both reactors going for at least another
two decades

BUCHANAN – The 40-year original license for the Indian Point Unit 3 nuclear power plant expires on Saturday, but the plant will continue in operation.
The plant, as well as Unit 2, are undergoing rigorous relicensing procedures and are allowed to continue in operation until a decision is made on a new license, said Indian Point spokesman Jerry Nappi.
“The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has over the eight years been inspecting Indian Point reviewing our application, listening to stakeholders in the community – they have actually spent 37,000 hours reviewing our license renewal application and staff for the NRC has stated that Indian Point is safe to continue to operate,” he said.
Nappi said Entergy has invested over $1 billion to strengthen Indian
Point’s reliability to prepare to operate it well into the future.
Entergy is seeking licenses to continue operating units 2 and 3 for another
20 years.
