POUGHKEEPSIE – If the turnout
for Tuesday night’s public hearing on Dutchess County Executive
Marcus Molinaro’s 2016 budget proposal is any indication, most citizens
are content with a spending plan that cuts taxes and county spending.
The handful who spoke during the 24-minute hearing were not so content, including Valerie Carlisle, who addressed the topic on the minds of most who spoke.
“Along with addressing the jail population problem, I believe the county should be more proactive in funding at-risk youth programs that would redirect their energy into positive outcomes,” Carlisle said.  “Restore county funding for Big Brothers Big Sisters, for our county Youth Bureau’s Project Return program, and the Green Teen program. “
County Legislator-elect Kerry Reiser said, “Right now, we’re doing a really good job of sending young people to prison.”
The legislature expects to adopt the budget, with any amendments, during their monthly meeting Thursday night.
